Neatline Response
I feel that Neatline is a very useful tool in the world of online learning. I would best describe Neatline as a kind of online interactive exhibit. It is a great way to interact with a piece of information, specifically in a geographical context. It was especially useful in the Antigone microlecture to get a sense of where Antigone originated and how it spread through the region.
In general, I feel that Neatline isn't too complex and is fairly user friendly. Most of the tutorials were very easy to follow, and a lot of the features of Neatline can be figured out intuitively. I found it very useful that exhibits and records can incorporate items such as timelines, images, and videos, along with text.
I feel that Neatline could be a lot more useful if each exhibit wasn't centered around a piece on the world map. Specifically, it could be a lot more useful for different kinds of assignments and learning if the primary style of each exhibit (right now it's a map) could be changed from a map to, say, a full screen timeline, or a slideshow. I feel that this would make Neatline much more versatile and capable of hosting exhibits and records not necessarily centered in a geographic context.
Overall, I do believe that Neatline is a very useful tool, and I'm definitely planning to use it for a future research excursion.
I agree, Neatline could be much more versatile as you were saying., It would be interesting to see a whole Museuem's collection on display through various exhibits in Neatline.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree about the lack of versatility in neatline. It would definitely be better if there were more options for what tool to center your exhibit around, as not everything works great on a map.
ReplyDeleteI will recommend the tool Timeline JS: https://timeline.knightlab.com/
ReplyDeleteAnd Storymap JS: https://storymap.knightlab.com/
Feel free to use one of these if it better matches the goals and frameworks of your project!
