We're Halfway There!

So far, Literatures of the World has been a very interesting course to be a part of. It's one of the few courses I am taking this year that really places an emphasis on inter-peer relationships, and it's helped me build a wholesome community with my classmates that really helps in these unsettling times where classes are being taught solely online.

As a computer science and engineering major, reading and writing weren't my absolute favorite. However, this course has prioritized both, and in turn I have become more and more comfortable with writing both formal and informal pieces while sharpening my reading skills by exposing me to a variety of different time periods and cultures. My favorite activities are definitely the Decameron project short story discussions, as most of the time these discussions help me see the short story for the week in a new way, one that I could have never thought of myself. The most informative activities for me are the micro lectures on the backgrounds of the texts we read in class. These really help me contextualize what I read and understand how I can learn from it and understand it fully.

Overall, I have enjoyed the first five weeks of Literatures of the World, and am looking to finish the second half of the quarter strong!

  1. I agree with you, although I'm pretty proficient in my English courses, it was by no means my favorite subject. AP Lit especially turned me off to English courses in general, and I was pretty worried going into the quarter when I saw this on ecampus. But luckily this has been a great course and I've thoroughly enjoyed it so far.

    1. I would love to abolish AP English courses altogether--I think they turn far too many students off of studying literature and becoming writers....
