COVID - My Thoughts
To be completely honest, I was quite relieved with the way COVID was going in the California Bay Area up until Thanksgiving (I know in the US overall it was always pretty bad, but the fact that my area was managing it somewhat well until November was somewhat relieving). However, things spiraled very much out of control after Thanksgiving. Even with the two vaccines being approved, all the hopes I had of spending more time outside and with friends were gone, and I was disappointed that I'd have to go back to quarantine life but also worried about what would happen in California and the US as a whole.
My disappointment regarding my return to quarantine life quickly faded – after almost ten months of being at home and online classes, I can't imagine a time when I actually used to physically go to school every day. Before thanksgiving, my family took a day trip to SF and after we came back I felt as if we had been traveling for much longer than just a single day, showing me that overall going outside has become a much more energy consuming activity than it used to be. Although the current situation in the US and Bay Area is quite unnerving, the most we can do is wear masks when we're outside, follow social distancing, and most of all, stay connected with the people we care about most. It's important to realize that we're all in this together (whenever I remember this, it makes me feel a tiny bit better that the pandemic has put us all together in the same quarantine experience).
I hadn't realized it until now, but I feel the same way with going out of the house nowadays. Even going to the grocery store or doing regular errands is pretty taxing, and I wonder if this could potentially become a phenomenon that will be researched.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, activities that were simply part of everyday life have actually become something of a chore now. I consider myself an extrovert with introverted tendencies and due to this pandemic I'm definitely leaning into my introverted side a bit more! Stay safe!
