Questions for Rhiannon Giddens

 1. How did Omar feel about his home country and family when he was taken to the Carolinas and how did it influence his actions/thoughts? The biography mainly covered his thoughts on the Owens family, but did not mention his thoughts on being taken from his homeland.

2. What was the points that were important to emphasize in an opera when taking the life of a Muslim-African man who was thankful to have met a kind family with whom he stayed? I'm not at all familiar with operas, but I'm curious as to what aspects of his life are emphasized through opera and why.

  1. I am also fascinated to hear what Gidden's chose to emphasize in her opera. I've never watched an opera before, so I don't realy have any idea what to expect.
